If there’s one thing you need to be good at in playing softball, it should be ball hitting. The skill ceiling of ball hitting is high that coaches really look for players who possess this talent. Here are some of the techniques to improve your ball hitting skills.
It is important to remember that when gripping the bat, the hitter applies pressure with the fingers, and not the palms. If you’re a right-hander, your left hand should be your bottom hand that controls the bat. The top hand supports the hand loosely.

You can either choke grip the bat, meaning you hold the bat several inches up from the knob, this form makes for better control but has less power. The closer your hands are from the knob, the more hitting power you’ll have but you sacrifice your bat control.
A good swing not only uses the hands but the whole body. Practice using your hips, legs, and shoulders. Always follow through when hitting, don’t stop short.
3. Watch the ball
You’ll know when the pitch is a ball or strike when you focus your attention on the ball. Of course, swing if it’s a strike, don’t if it’s a ball. Just remember, keep watching the ball. The difference between a great hitter and a novice can be as simple as knowing where the ball is going.
